About
the Artist
Annette Ryder was
born in 1952 in Weymouth, Dorset. At the age of 4 she took ballet
classes which started a lifelong passion for dance. At school Annette
was in love with the idea of painting but was always disappointed
in the results as they never matched the visions in her head. Disheartened
with painting she threw herself into her dancing wholeheartedly as
a release for her creativity.
In 1970, despite being accepted at the London School of Contemporary
Dance, Annette found she was ineligible for grant aid so promptly
opted for a course at teacher training college studying her beloved
dance. Throughout her teaching career she strove to inspire her students
to fulfil their creative potential.
At the
advanced age of 45 Annette signed up for a part time foundation course
in art and design at
the local school of art.
This foray into education was followed by a B.Tech course in textiles
specialising in costume design for the theatre. After painting a mural
in a local doctor's surgery she was in demand to transform walls in
other places and a small business was born.
Moving to South Devon brought about a creative growth spurt and Annette
began to write poetry inspired by her new surroundings, especially
the sea. Artwork to accompany these poems was forthcoming and so picture
making resurfaced.
In 2003 Annette and her new partner Drew moved to Spain. At present
Drew runs a restaurant called Los
Amigos and Annette's artwork adorns the walls. Customers
can look at leisure whilst dining. |
