Bunbeg Harbour

Arms of peat dark rock
encircle this sheltered inlet,
a haven from the skirling sea,
where a raggle, taggle of lobster pots
lie askew like abandoned birdcages
against the rock face,
glistening
with ribbons of quartz.
The intermittent sun is warm, and
the lulling sound of water on hull
soothes the troubled mind.
In the peace you might hear clouds
slide past with a whisper,
surely time has stood still.
Piled in a barrow a tangled skein
of fishing net glisters with
shining pearls of rain.
I finger this delicate treasure
admiring the simple beauty of Nature.
